World Cup
World Cup is an online scratchcard game with, as you might have suspected, a football theme. The game, which can be played at Hopa as well as at Scratch2Cash, involves a nail-biting penalty shootout, and your job is to beat the score that Brazil has already achieved in order to win the World Cup for your own team. Serious soccer fans will no doubt wonder why every World Cup final in this game has to involve Brazil, but the rest of us can concentrate on enjoying the scratchcard itself and shooting for £200,000!
As always, you start by deciding how much you want to spend on your scratchcard. You can play for free if you just want to see what the World Cup game is all about, or you can play for real money to try and win cash prizes. The minimum stake is 50p, and the more you bet, the more you can win. Your odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3, which is pretty good when you consider that you’re playing against Brazil!
The World Cup online scratchcard game screen shows the goalkeeper and goal of the Brazilian team, above which are three panels. The first panel will display your score as you play the game, and the other two panels hide the prize that you stand to win and the number of goals that Brazil has already scored. You can scratch these panels at the outset if you wish, but you will probably have more fun scratching them after the main football action has taken place.
You are put in charge of a red football boot and you can take five penalty shots at the goal. Use your mouse to aim your shot high or low and to the left or right of the goal (an arrow will helpfully indicate where you are currently aiming) and then click your mouse button to shoot. The ball will then be kicked in the appropriate direction and the goalkeeper will either make a save or you will score a goal.
When you have taken five shots at the goal then you should scratch the panels above the goal (if you haven’t already) and your score will be compared with that of the Brazilian team. If you have scored more than Brazil then you win whatever sum is stated in the Prize panel.
The visuals in this game are impressive, with some great animation of the goalie diving for the ball whenever you take a shot, but it has to be said that the audio is even better. The thud of you kicking the football and the noise of the crowd roaring, cheering, and eventually celebrating your World Cup victory helps to create a very rich atmosphere and makes World Cup a game that everyone will enjoy.
