Noughts and Crosses on Ice
Noughts and Cross on Ice is a new online scratchcard game at the National Lottery site which combines the traditional game of noughts and crosses with the kind of fun that you might expect to have at an outdoor ice skating rink in the middle of winter. The game costs £1 per ticket and the top prize is £6,000, but there are plenty of smaller prizes up for grabs as well, and your odds of winning any prize at all are 1 in 3.34, which is quite impressive.
We’ve seen lots of things ‘on ice’ before – Dancing on Ice, Disney on Ice, and a nice drop of something strong on ice – but Noughts and Cross on Ice is a new concept to us. Fortunately, it’s one that we thoroughly enjoyed discovering, and we think that you will too!
When you start the game you will be asked to choose your player – a blue Cross or a red Nought. Your choice doesn’t affect the odds of you winning, but it does determine which symbols you need to get to win a prize. Play as the blue Cross and you will need to get a line of three crosses to win a prize, but if you play as the red Nought you will need to get a line of three noughts to win a prize.
As mentioned earlier, the action takes place on an outdoor skating rink, which features a classic 3x3 Noughts and Crosses grid on the surface. Your character skates around the rink (following your mouse cursor) and you have to click on nine snowflake symbols to reveal the noughts and crosses that are underneath. Each horizontal, vertical and diagonal line is associated with a different prize, and you find out what those prizes are by scratching the prize panels situated around the grid.
If you would prefer to focus on the nine main snowflake symbols and scratch all of the prize panels at once then you can do that by clicking the Reveal All Prizes button in the top right hand corner of the online scratchcard.
Noughts and Cross on Ice has some very soothing background music and the animation of your character skating across the ice is equally impressive. Our only quibble with this game is that if you reveal several symbols and discover that you have no chance of winning (because it is impossible to get three of your noughts or crosses in a line on that occasion) you still have to scratch the remaining symbols to end the game. Of course, this is only a minor criticism, and when you consider that you have a 1 in 3.34 chance of winning any prize (and it could be as much as £6,000!) then it probably isn’t one that would stop any of us from playing!
Overall, Noughts and Cross on Ice is a lot of fun and very relaxing. You can try the game for free or play for real, so be sure to take a look and have a go for yourself!
