Letter Quest

Letter Quest Online ScratchcardLetter Quest is such a unique online scratchcard game at the National Lottery site that we are almost tempted to describe it as revolutionary. Why? Well, because it is one of the first online scratchcards we have seen that takes place in a fully rendered 3D world – the kind of which you might find in a video console game. Each Letter Quest game costs £2 and the top prize is worth £60,000. Your overall chance of winning any prize at all is 1 in 4.1, but if you are anything like us you would enjoy playing the game regardless of prize potential, because it really is brilliant.

The game takes place in what looks like a large museum – the kind you might expect to see in a film like The Da Vinci Code. A circular walkway is situated in the middle of the room and this is divided into segments. Each segment contains a letter, artefact or other symbol. In the centre of the walkway is a platform holding a pair of dice. Your game character stands on the walkway at the bottom right of your screen.

At the upper right of your screen you will see a prize table which shows you which letters and artefacts you need to collect to win various prize amounts. As well as winning prizes by collecting enough letters to make words, you can also win cash prizes by winning mini-games, putting artefacts together or collecting a cash prize amount from the walkway.

When you start the Letter Quest game you have 7 rolls of the dice, though you can get extra rolls as the game progresses. Click the dice to roll them and your character will walk that number of segments along the walkway. The clever bit here is that the camera centres on the character at all times, so it looks like the whole room revolves as she walks the designated number of spaces.

When the character stops walking, she collects whatever is on the segment that she has arrived at:

- If a letter or artefact is collected then this is highlighted on the prize table, and if the required letters and/or artefacts have been collected then the corresponding prize is yours.

- If a cash amount symbol is collected then you win that amount.

- If a mini game symbol is collected then you get to play a mini game where you can win more letters, artefacts or extra rolls.

You continue rolling the dice, moving the appropriate number of spaces and collecting items, until you run out of turns. If, at that stage, you have won one or more prizes, your character will give you a round of applause before the game ends.

We suspect that the very impressive 3D format of the Letter Quest online scratchcard will be employed by plenty of other online scratchcard games in the future. Try the game for yourself and we think you’ll be just as impressed as we are.
